“Speak it Into Existence”: Does the Law of Attraction Work?

“Speak it Into Existence”: Does the Law of Attraction Work?

The Secret

I remember when I first heard the buzz about the book The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. The buzz alone did not tell me much about what “the secret” was but just that it was a life changing book. I think Oprah even gave it some kudos. I had to see what the hoopla was about. I somehow got my hands on a copy of it and I think I got a few chapters in before I declared it blasphemous. At this point in my life I was headstrong in my Christian beliefs and anything that sounded New Age was pure rubbish. Fast forward to 2013, I had reached a point in my life where I was unhappy with who I was and what I was doing. I decided to do some research on the Law of Attraction and how it works.

How Vision Boards Work (For Me)

To put it simply, the Law of Attraction is the ability to change your reality by attracting what you want with your thoughts and intentions (you have to work towards the goal, not just wish on it). This idea is not tied to a religion, it is seen as a universal law of nature. I decided to give manifestation a shot by creating a vision board. Now, I am no expert, I am a student in this school of life experiences so this is just my testimony.

I researched how to Feng shui  my board to strengthen the manifesting energies. Feng shui is a Chinese philosophical system of harmonizing energies in your surroundings.  I included pictures and phrases about physical health, love and relationships, money, giving back to the community, career, traveling, wisdom and gratitude. I proudly displayed my vision board in my room and I spoke daily affirmations to my board and to myself every day. One important thing about creating a vision board is being mindful of your thoughts. If you don’t think the board will work, it won’t. You have to know that you can achieve the things you want.

Over a year long period, I can honestly say that I manifested most of the things on my vision board. I claimed that I would receive the things that I wanted and asked God (Universe, Source, etc) to align me with my highest self to receive these things. I got promoted at work, I got a new car and new apartment, my finances were better than ever and my credit score rose drastically. I grew stronger bonds to my friends and relationships and I got to travel several times in one year! I began practicing yoga and eating healthy which made a drastic change in my health my self-esteem (I lost 80lbs eating clean and exercising). I was healthier than ever before and I could tell that my life had changed for the better. I was 1000% convinced that the law of attraction works!

One of the key things to manifesting is also knowing that everything will not come easy. You have to trust your path and understand that there will be road blocks; everything will not happen right away also. Vision boards help you map out your goals, they don’t make them happen. You have to decide what you need to do to make it happen and that positive energy flow will be given to you to make it happen.

Speak It Into Existence

As human beings, we often take for granted the power that we possess as spiritual beings. Dogmatic religions have been in control of what is perceived as “good” and “bad” spiritual practices, which hinders a person’s ideology toward alternative methods of healing ourselves. In the Christian household that I was raised in, magic, meditation, and anything related to the occult was demonized. Instead, I was taught to pray to God and He will make a way. The principle behind praying and manifesting is taking steps toward changing what you dislike about your reality. For example, you cannot have goals of becoming a chef and not study or take training to fulfill your goal.

Our thoughts have energy. So when we speak and when we write, we are materializing that energy into our reality. When you are constantly putting energy toward the things you want, they will come into fruition. Practicing meditations with healing crystals helped me to think clearly and introspectively about the “I” in my being. When you know yourself, you have an INNERstanding that will transform the outward.

Where Do I Begin?

The first thing you should do is get your mind right. Decide why you want to make these changes in your life and what type of person you want to be. Some questions you can ask yourself:

  • What am I passionate about?
  • What are my best qualities?
  • What are qualities that I want to improve?
  • If I could do anything in this life, it would be…
  • …makes me happiest.

Listed below are more tips on preparing yourself mentally to manifest in the physical reality. Remember, this world is spiritual as well as physical and there are forces that work for us that we are unaware of. Learn how to tap into those forces.

Last but not least, DO YOUR RESEARCH! Do not just read one or two blogs about the law of attraction, read several different books from different sources.

I hope this blog post touches your spirit. Peace, Love, and Light.

It has been a long time since I have heard a voice that can bring me to tears and move my soul to rejoice. Singer-songwriter Bryan J. Sledge who, of course, hails from Chicago blessed the stage, live and in living color, at El Club in Detroit a year ago with an hour of amazing energy and soulful sounds. He showed the Motor City much love and also paid tribute to Prince and D’Angelo by performing a few of his favorites. BJ is best known for lending his polished vocals on the hit song “Studio” by west coast artist, Schoolboy Q. He has also been heard bolting out soulful lyrics on tracks with Kendrick Lamar, Anderson.Paak, and fellow Chicago native Chance The Rapper, in which he paid his respects by performing snippets from each artist that helped get him to where he is today.

There is something special about being up close and personal with an artist while they are making magic. Although everyone was dripping in sweat (boy, it was hot!), we could not stop dancing to the beat of his drum, which he literally played intermittently throughout the set. It was like a trance. BJ will take you to church with his gospel-like runs and his melodies. He blessed every soul in that club, singing songs from his latest album In My Mind which debuted in February 2016 and a few favorites from his freshmen album Pineapple Now-Laters.

I am looking forward to hearing so much more from this man. He gives me hope that soul music and genuine artistry still exist. From the heart of a music lover, BJ The Chicago Kid, I thank you!

If you have not checked this brother out, please enjoy some of his music below. Peace and Love!

Protect Your Energy: Create the Best Version of You

Life Force Energy

One of the most important things I have learned in life is about energy. Everything in life is made out of energy that we cannot see. We give and we take energy from everything around us. Learning how to control your own energy and its fluctuations throughout the day takes conscious effort.

Everyday when you wake up you have a choice as to how you want your day to go. You set in your mind, either consciously or unconsciously, that your day will be good or bad based on your attitude and whether you want to create a pleasant or an unpleasant day of experiences. Regardless of what happens to you throughout your day, you have the power to see the good and the bad in each situation and you have the power to change it. How you react to unpleasant situations is your choice. I have suffered from depression and it can be triggering when someone tells me to cheer up or just be positive. Everything will not come easy to us in life. Just because something is challenging, it does not mean we should not make small efforts to overcome the battles. Depression is a battle that cannot be fought alone and it won’t be overnight, but that is a subject for another blog entry. In this context, I am referring to those moments when we can control how angry we get when someone cuts us off on the road or how long we choose to cry over the person who broke our hearts. Our emotions and our intentions have energy and this energy creates physiological effects that deteriorate the body. Our life force energy has the power to create and destroy; to heal and to degenerate.

Being Mindful

We live in a reality of constant action and reaction, or, cause and affect. Everything that exists is energy in motion from the tiniest working white blood cells to the power of the sun. Over the past few years I have discovered many things about myself that has helped me to understand why I do the things I do. Being an empath is when you are affected by other people’s energies, and have an innate ability to intuitively feel and perceive others.  Your life is unconsciously influenced by others’ desires, wishes, thoughts, and moods. It is important to be mindful of your thoughts and intentions that you send out into the world because you influence the energy of the world and others. Your goal should be to contribute as much positive energy into your day.

Being mindful of our thoughts and actions changes the frequency of our vibrational energy. The higher the frequency, the more you can affect the reality around you in a positive way. Lower vibrational frequencies have been proven the create “dis-ease” in our lives, physically and mentally.

Choose Yourself Everyday

There has to come a day when you become deliberate with yourself. Wake up and choose you everyday. We are spiritual beings experiencing a physical reality that we have created. God has given us a machine (the body) to navigate through this reality; we just have to pay attention.  We have to be mindful to what our natural instincts tells us to do to be our best selves. These machines function best on certain foods and water. If you know that vegetables and fruits and exercise help you to be better, why do we consciously choose to eat junk that makes us feel tired and gain weight?

Choose yourself everyday by making the best decisions for you. One of the best things I learned for myself was saying “No”. I was so used to giving myself to everything and everybody that I neglected my own happiness. Take a mental health day from work. Stay home on a Friday night and watch your favorite shows. Treat yourself at the mall or a day at the spa. Take some time and work on your hobbies; find things to do that will bring out your creative side. When you feel good on the inside, you look good on the outside. Self-care should always be your number one priority.

Here are some tips that I believe are helpful for maintaining balanced mental and physical energy.
